The 2013 West Coast Swing Report!

Predictions of an extremely hot summer this year will welcome yet another swing of players ‘galore’ on the west coast of the United States. Normally occurring in springtime,  this 4th annual ‘West Coast Swing’ has now been moved to the summertime in order to work around the ‘BCA National Championships’ schedule which takes place in late July at the newly contracted Rio All Suites Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. That being said, the ‘swing’ will still accomodate a trifecta of major events shared by the states of California and Nevada and will boast a prize fund of at least $80,000 between them.

Different Players Anticipated

This years’ attendance at these events should be something to note due to the newly formed World Professional Billiard League or WPBL, (The Home Of Bonus Ball). With 12 teams of pro players from all over the world and with the ‘swing’ right in the middle of the ‘Bonus Ball’ broadcast schedule, it seems we should see a lively yet mixed attendance of top players scheduling these events between their ‘on’ and ‘off” time of Bonus Ball appearances. For instance, for an event in early July, Bonus Ball teams’ Chicago Rockets (Mika Immonen, Rodney Morris, Raj Hundal, Karl Boyes) should be available to play The West Coast Challenge event in Mountain View, but Bonus Ball would prevent them from appearing at Hard Times Billiards on the following week. At the Hard Times 10-Ball event, we might see a new swing of players from Bonus Ball teams, ‘Atlanta Scorpions’ (Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, Shannon Daulton) or the ‘Houston Hustlers’ (Jeremy Jones, Justin Hall and Chip Compton). As a likely result of this rather interesting schedule of events, a ‘winning sweep’ of The West Coast Swing by a small handful of players should not be anticipated. With 12 teams of bonus ball players (40 players in all) in Las Vegas during the swing, you can be assured that 40 top pros are already deciding how to best spend their off-time at Bonus Ball to keep their games in top shape. It is highly recommended that players and readers read and contribute to pertinent forums in order to follow the players and tournament schedules.

Additional sponsors of the event include, Play The Game Clothing and John Henderson’s Cue Sports Journal. The prize fund matches last years’, with the inclusion of two self-sanctioned spots to compete in the third leg of the swing at CSI’s Open One-Pocket and Open 10-Ball events.
