Joe Martin’s 3rd Annual One-Pocket Tournament!

$1,500 Added – 32 Players

The 3rd Annual, $1,500 Added Joe Martin One-Pocket Tournament happening this October 12th & 13th at Stix Billiards in Rancho Cucamonga, CA approaches! In the past 3 years in Southern California, Joe Martin Promotions has contributed over $10,000 in support of numerous women’s 9-Ball and One-Pocket events. Earlier this year it came to my attention that Joe recently suffered a stroke and was forced to take some time out from promoting in order to recover. POV Pool has had the pleasure of working with Mr. Martin to live stream at least four of his events to audiences on www.povpool.com and will once again join forces with Joe and Stix’s owner, Alex Laoingco to provide yet another free live stream! Wishing Joe the best of health and a full recovery, we look forward to this event which, despite the absence of a few due to the US Open 9-Ball event, should be an exciting field.

‘One-Pocket’ Rich – “I gotta hitch!”

2-time consecutive champion, ‘One-Pocket Rich’ Grenier is expected to defend his title and in the past 20 years, Rich has played and beat them all for the cash; is arguably known as one of the top-20 best and most knowledgable one-pocket players in the United States. Ike Runnels from Chicago has never beat him, he’s recently taken down Sylver Ochoa and Scott Frost in a slightly weighted game and is feared by all at his home pool room in Santa Monica where he’s been playing for over 2 decades.    Richard Grenier

Although all eyes will be on Rich to beat the field in this year’s event, his recent admission of a newly developed ‘hitch’ in his stroke is forcing him to resort to taking many of his shots by switching from right to left-handed play. Asked whether he thinks this will be an issue this year, he says, “It’s a little embarrassing, but it’s true. I can’t shoot shots the way I used to because of this damn hitch. There are certain shots where I have to draw the cue ball about 3 or 4 inches and I have to switch to left-hand. It’s affecting my confidence, which in turn affects the way I play overall.”

Well players, there’s a little irony to this tale for those of you that thinks you’ll have an edge on Rich. He’s also ambidextrous! Be warned not to take his knowledge of the game and his penchant for playing ‘lefty’ for granted! This could be one of the best ‘stalls’ from a champion I’ve seen in awhile.

Live Streaming Support From Kamui!

Gator Grip Gator Grip2

With the help and support of POV Pool’s longtime sponsor Kamui Tips, we will be able to provide this live stream for FREE, with the added incentive for viewers to support POV Pool through donations instead of Pay Per View. This was initially slated as a PPV event, yet we also realize that it may be too risky to invest in a Pay Per View Broadcast who’s final matches will coincide with the opening day of The US Open 9-Ball event taking place in Virginia on October 13th. A very small part of POV Pool’s income is generated through donations from viewers, but for this stream Kamui is offering viewers a chance to receive any one of 5 Kamui Gator Grips in return for those donations to POV Pool which exceed $35. And, since there are only 5 Gator Grips being randomly drawn before the final match of the event, all other donations of $35 or more will receive a Kamui Tip Voucher as consolation. Either way, it is once again a win/win scenario provided by Kamui Products and POV Pool in an effort to continue providing live streams to those who can’t afford it via Pay Per View and during times when events like this may be double booked with others.

POV Pool thanks John Bertone, Kamui and all of the viewers in advance for their generous support and encouragement to me for continuing my efforts and keeping POV Pool alive!

There is virtually nothing that I wouldn’t do for the billiard community as long as there is an audience helping us move forward. I have not backed off my commitment to improving the broadcast quality or the presentation of this great game and I also feel that streaming pool is but the tip of the iceberg.  kamui voucher

Spots Still Available!

There are still spots open for this event. Entry fee is only $40 which, for a chance to match up with the likes of players like John Schmidt, Wayne Pullen, Frank ‘Da Barber” Almanza, Fach Garcia, James Burden, Bernardo ‘King Kong’ Chavez and many other of SoCal’s strongest, is a small price to pay. Format will be Double Eliminations, race to 2 on both sides. $1,500 Added based on full field!

POV Pool Reaches ‘One Year’ Today – December, 2012 Event Playlist!

Happy Birthday, POV Pool!

On December 4th, 2011 I launched Point Of View Pool with a vision to deliver to fans of the game as many ‘points of view ‘of the billiards community. Not just with video streams and events, but also with press, articles and social media networks. I am proud to report that during this year of infancy, POV Pool on YouTube has already reached 1,322 subscribers and over 350,000 views. I have personally written and published over 25 press releases, which include exclusive interviews and articles on industry developments. I have had the honor of streaming over 30 tournaments at venues all over California, like Hard Times Billiards Bellflower, The California Billiard Club, Sherman Oaks – House Of Billiards, Good Times Billiards, Plush Pocket, The Broken Rack, On-Cue Billiards, Butera’s Billiards, Stix Billiards, The Embassy Club and The PitStop Pub!

I’d like to thank all of the billiard hall owners who have worked with me, all of the commentators who’s list grows longer with every stream; to all of the viewers of the live streams and to the visitors of my site, who’s demand for billiard related content give me a reason to roll out of bed every morning. Let me not also forget the sponsors, the moderators and promotors of streams who have done their very best to keep POV Pool on the map and in demand.

The list of those who have offered me a helping hand and a constructive comment or two is way too long to mention and I cannot forget the players, who’s performances are always a joy to witness. Sitting in the booth and being spectator has taught me more about the game that I would have ever bargained for. It has been an honor to play a small role in your tournament lives, watching the gloves come off, no matter who you are playing or how much you get on with your opponents off the table.

This ‘sport’ or ‘game’, or whichever you choose to call it is nothing less than astonishing to me on all fronts. Never, have I seen people work so hard for so little reward and yet, still show a passion and love for pool without ever questioning whether they are going to quit for good. It is within that spirit that, when times are hard (and they usually are), that I, too shall continue on this journey with Point Of View Pool.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Sincerely, Daniel Busch / Owner – POV Pool Media

Richard Grenier Reigns As Stix Billiards’ 2012, One-Pocket Champion!

373223_235837629822339_1586008482_n

Early Morning: June  17th, 2012

Richard Grenier AKA “One-Pocket Rich” manages to defend his One-Pocket title as a 2-time Champion of the Joe Martin Sponsored, One-Pocket Event which was held at Stix Billiards in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

“Man I had to play champions all the way through this thing!”, exclaims Rich who started off his day beating Victorville’s John Schmidt, the legend – Jose Parica, tough Hard Times player – Larry (Motto), Wayne Pullen and then finally onto the final match to play Oscar Dominguez who had just finished an astounding 4 and a half hour match with Santos Sambajon.

“My toughest match was with Larry who had me 2-1 and after I caught up with him I had a chance to close it out when he scratched and all I needed was two balls but then I scratched.”

Luckily for Rich, Larry didn’t close out either and after a final 25 minute battle, Rich was able to eliminate Larry and move on to Wayne Pullen who also plays regularly out of Santa Monica’s House Of Billiards establishment.

A big thanks goes out to Alex and all the staff of Stix Billiards for holding the event which hosted 35 players and a plethora of railbirds. Thanks also to long-time supporter and sponsor of the event, Joe Martin who added the $1,000 to the prize fund which attracted players from SoCal’s best pool halls which include, Gary’s Victor Billiards, Stix in Ventura, Butera’s Billiards, Santa Monica House Of Billiards, Hard Times Billiards – Bellflower, and even Danny K’s in Orange, CA.

POV Pool managed to stream 6 matches will are being posted to YouTube. POV Pool would also like to thank, Frank Almanza, Jerry Matchin, Wayne Pullen, Melissa Herndon, Eddie Assisten, Marie Lim and Eddie Cohen for taking the time out to join us in the booth for their fine commentary on these matches.
