Your Daily inspiration: “If you want something, you’ve got to be relentless!”

Delbert Wong and Family Billiards hosting another ‘Cole Dickson’!

Summer is on the horizon and it’s time to take your foot off the breaks and put the pedal to the metal! This year’s ‘West Coast Swing’ of pool kicks off in San Francisco with it’s first stop of six stops total. On July 2nd and 3rd, Delbert Wong’s Family Billiards is hosting the 4th annual Cole Dickson Open 10-Ball tournament. Since Cole’s passing in June of 2013, Delbert swiftly launched the event to remember one of America’s most entertaining money players of our time. This year’s ‘Dickson’ will be $2,500 added guaranteed; the two day event on Geary Blvd will be played on Family Billiards’ well kept, Gold Crown 9 foot tables that are scheduled to be freshly cloth-ed and tuned by Ernesto Dominguez. Of the six total events on the ‘West Coast Swing’, the Cole Dickson event offers the lowest entry fee of only $75 with no additional late fees. Also, in conjunction with CueSports International and the 2016 CSI U.S. Open events toward the end of July, the first place winner of this year’s Cole Dickson will receive a free entry into their pick of the U.S. Open 8 or 10 ball events; an entry worth $350.

The toughest in the West and the World!

Charging to San Francisco and sniffing around for action are a host of pro-pool players for this year’s Cole Dickson. We are waiting until June 1st to provide readers with a preliminary list of ‘who’s who’ at the 4th Cole, but one thing’s for sure, last year’s winner, Rodney ‘The Rocket’ Morris has given a positive ‘nod’ along with the likes of Raj ‘The Hitman’ Hundal, Tony Chohan, and last minute travel plans are being made for Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante to attend. (Django is here for big action in Las Vegas on July 19th, but more on that from us soon). Another name floating in the ether is Canada’s top all around player Alex Pagulayan, who’s has been heard to say with a sense of urgency, “I need dates and times! Somebody tell me when this all starts!” Yes, it’s entirely possible that, due to the prestige of the events following this one, The 4th Cole Dickson and the rest of the ‘Swing’ may fill faster than any other before it.

– Congratulations are in order to Alex Pagulayun for just winning the ‘Don Coates Memorial One-Pocket Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina and the recent, “2016 Canadian 9-ball Championships’. Alex is on fire this year! Let’s not forget that he is also this year’s Derby City ‘All Around’ Champion! READ MORE HERE

Family Billiards – San Francisco

In the Bay Area, the name ‘Family Billiards’ is ubiquitous with pool. The name has been around San Francisco since 1967 and has stood strong as a personal favorite to thousands of pool players from all over the world. Delbert Wong took over ‘Family’ in the early 80’s and moved it to its present location on Geary Blvd. has been known by many as one of those room-owners that gives back to the players. His very close friend, Cole Dickson passed just 4 years ago and was taken too soon from us. Cole Dickson was known to many as one of the best money players around.

Legendary story: Cole once proposed $1,000 per game against the 9-ball ghost and broke the house!

What is the ‘West Coast Swing of Pool’?

The ‘West Coast Swing’ is a ‘back to back’ annual series of high paying, ‘open’ pool tournaments, held at several venues on the West Coast of the United States within close proximity and time frame. Usually held during summertime, the ‘Swing’ events are designed to attract the world’s top-tier pool players who seek to associate with high profile events, grow their professional careers and promote their sponsors and/or affiliates. Each tournament is independent of one another, so there is no registration and no obligation to play multiple stops. However, the ‘Swing’ events are well coordinated in terms of location and chronology so that they are always synchronous, giving players the opportunity to play all events if they desire.

2016 • July 2nd – 30th • One month of solid action!

This year’s West Coast Swing will start in San Francisco, California on July 2nd for ‘Stop #1’ (The Cole Dickson 10-Ball). Players will gradually work their way south for two weeks through Fremont, California for ‘Stops 2 and 3 (The West Coast Challenge); then to Bellflower, California for ‘Stop 4’ (The Hard Times 10-Ball) and finally, players will ‘swing’ north east to Las Vegas, Nevada for stops 5 and 6 (CSI U.S. Open 8-ball and 10-ball) held at The Rio All Suites Hotel/Resort Casino.

Entry Form/s for all events can be found here:

The 2013 West Coast Swing Report!

Predictions of an extremely hot summer this year will welcome yet another swing of players ‘galore’ on the west coast of the United States. Normally occurring in springtime,  this 4th annual ‘West Coast Swing’ has now been moved to the summertime in order to work around the ‘BCA National Championships’ schedule which takes place in late July at the newly contracted Rio All Suites Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. That being said, the ‘swing’ will still accomodate a trifecta of major events shared by the states of California and Nevada and will boast a prize fund of at least $80,000 between them.

Different Players Anticipated

This years’ attendance at these events should be something to note due to the newly formed World Professional Billiard League or WPBL, (The Home Of Bonus Ball). With 12 teams of pro players from all over the world and with the ‘swing’ right in the middle of the ‘Bonus Ball’ broadcast schedule, it seems we should see a lively yet mixed attendance of top players scheduling these events between their ‘on’ and ‘off” time of Bonus Ball appearances. For instance, for an event in early July, Bonus Ball teams’ Chicago Rockets (Mika Immonen, Rodney Morris, Raj Hundal, Karl Boyes) should be available to play The West Coast Challenge event in Mountain View, but Bonus Ball would prevent them from appearing at Hard Times Billiards on the following week. At the Hard Times 10-Ball event, we might see a new swing of players from Bonus Ball teams, ‘Atlanta Scorpions’ (Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, Shannon Daulton) or the ‘Houston Hustlers’ (Jeremy Jones, Justin Hall and Chip Compton). As a likely result of this rather interesting schedule of events, a ‘winning sweep’ of The West Coast Swing by a small handful of players should not be anticipated. With 12 teams of bonus ball players (40 players in all) in Las Vegas during the swing, you can be assured that 40 top pros are already deciding how to best spend their off-time at Bonus Ball to keep their games in top shape. It is highly recommended that players and readers read and contribute to pertinent forums in order to follow the players and tournament schedules.

Raj Hundal Wants Revenge!

It’s Not Over Between Raj and Oscar!

The word on the street is that Raj Hundal and Oscar Dominguez are negotiating a rematch to be played at a location which is very soon to be disclosed. There have already been 2 action matches between them playing 10-Ball, of which Oscar has been the victor.

The Stakes Are Raised

Obviously another re-match between these two giants would not be fitting at the same stakes as before. In May 2011, Oscar and Raj played races to 19 at the Cue-Club in Las Vegas for $2,500. Raj was defeated in both races, ending in scores of 19-12 and 19-16. Later that year in December, the stakes were raised to $10,000 per race to 25 games and was streamed, live to pay-per-view audiences. After the 3rd day of play, Oscar Dominguez reigned supreme, winning 2 out of 3 sets.

Now the fearless Raj “Hitman” Hundal is coming on stronger and higher at Oscar with a whopping $20,000 raise. A challenge that will turn up the heat and surely pack the house of any venue.

When, Where & How?

All we can tell you at this time is that the proposed date for this match will take place on November 2nd of 2012, and will last 2 or 3 days. The actual location of this match has yet to be decided, but we do know is that it will happen at a pool-hall and not in a studio. It’ll be somewhere in California at 1 of 3 possible locations, which will be disclosed within the next few days.

The format of the challenge is also being worked out, but it in order to play it out for at least 2 days both players are once again, discussing a 10-Ball game format possibly consisting of 13 or 15 multiple races to 11 games. The player who wins the most races at the end will be decided as the victor.

Live Stream? Of Course! Be A Part Of Pool History!

More information on this match will be reported as it develops. We do know that whatever the details on location, format and final dates, POV Pool has made a commitment to travel anywhere necessary to deliver a live streamed action match, using multiple cameras and up-to the minute news coverage of this event.

Be sure to check back frequently for late breaking news as we report all of the final touches on this late-breaking story!

One of the most anticipated memorial tournaments in California rapidly approaches, with this year’s event boasting a whopping $6,000 added prize fund. The 5 day event consists of a 3 day, One-Pocket Tournament open to a field of 32 players and overlapped by a 3 day, 9-Ball tournament open to 192 players. This will be the 5th annual event since Chuck’s passing, which is expected to draw the likes of BCA, Hall Of Famers, Jose Parica and Francisco Bustamante, Rodney Morris, Amar Kang, Oscar & Ernesto Dominguez, Raj “The Hitman” Hundal, Dave Hemmah and not to mention, many ‘dark horse’ contenders from all over the U.S. Last year’s champions include Jose Parica in One-Pocket and Rodney Morris winning the 9-ball portion of the event. With the help of his friend and associate Jay Helfert, they designed and built Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, CA which drew players from all over the world to play in some of the most memorable tournaments of its time. The success of this venue quickly prompted Chuck to open the other locations, of which the Sacramento and Bellflower locations remain to this day.
