Coming to us from the Philippines on May 21st and staying for just 3 days only, pool fanatics in Southern California will have the honor of receiving an earlier than expected visit from the BCA ‘Hall Of Famer’ and arguably the best ‘all around’ pool player that ever lived, Efren Bata Reyes. Efren’s schedule over the next two months is virtually packed with high-end, One-Pocket events each being showcased at different parts of the country. This coming Saturday…“Efren is stopping at Hard Times Billiards for just 3 days and then, on his way to Louisiana for the ‘Professional’ One-Pocket event on May 25th at Buffalo Billiards.”, states Efren’s ‘west coast’ manager, Brook Thomason. “Efren is ONLY playing 1-pocket at this time, as he wants to be wholly prepared.” The upcoming Louisiana event, which has a $2,000 entry fee and consists of 16 players, boasts a first place prize of $16,000. Immediately following this on June 2nd, he stops in Edison, New Jersey to play the Accu-Stats, ‘Make it Happen’event which, features 5 of the toughest One-Pocket players on the planet, playing a round-robin style tournament. Efren also has an even bigger match approaching in July against Scott “The Freezer” Frost in Arizona.
Challenge Efren Reyes!
Giving most players a handicap of 10/7 and playing 1-Pocket, right now is your chance to book your very own ‘challenge’ match with Efren Reyes! Point Of View Pool Media will be on premises to provide live coverage of everything that unfolds during his stay at Hard Times. In January of this year, POV Pool provided coverage of Efren’s previous challenge matches with John Lassek, George Teyachea, Fach Garcia and several others.
One-Pocket ONLY – Book it Now – First Come, First Served!
As we book names we will update this page.
Contact us for a challenge with Efren Reyes / Time slots listed below:
The requirements of ‘Efren’s Challenge’ is to play him a minimum of 3 sets of One-Pocket at a minimum of a $100 wager per set (Race to 3). Wagering higher and playing for longer will also be considered and since his upcoming event in Louisiana will be races to 5, I would personally love to see someone step up and play Efren a race to 5 for $500 or $1,000 minimum. All matches are uploaded to YouTube for on-demand viewing; a chance for some of you one-pocket players to get a good match in with expert commentary and visual feedback of your technical prowess.
Disclaimer: Due to the nature of the game of One-Pocket, all challenge TIMES are booked as tentative. Each challenger reserves the right to challenge a 4th set only. This means that the next challenger in line may start later than originally scheduled. A ‘split table time’ policy is enforced. Table times are the responsibility of each player.
Delbert Wong, owner of Family Billiards, initially wanted a 10-ball tournament, but the poster went to print and wasn’t changed. During the player’s meeting it went up for vote, and all but two players preferred 10-ball format. So, at the last minute, it was changed to 10-ball, but you do not need to call pocket. Slop Counts!

Sunday, June 28th: Day 2
Day One of the Cole Dickson Memorial Tournament leaves us with the top 16 left in the tournament. Rodney Morris, Randy Baker, Amar Kang, Damian Pongpanik, Vilmos Foldes, Josh Gomes, Nick Collado, and Josh Gomes go into the second day of the tournament undefeated. Ramon Mistica, Robert Yulo, Ian Costello, Corey Deuel, Oscar Dominguez, Roger Goodman, Rylan Hartnett, and Ernesto Dominguez are all in danger of exiting the tournament the first round of play on Sunday.
After just 2 scheduled events of 12 in its first season, The Mezz West State Tour has quickly accumulated 122 members, with an official tour ranking and a desire to earn a spot in the season ending’s, ‘Top Gun” Finale Event of just 16 players in March of 2015. As the Tour prepares for its next stop this weekend at Diamond Billiards in Fresno, California it looks as though the membership should grow to see more new players, sparking not just local interest in winning a piece of the $2,000 added money and a place on the rankings list, the Tour’s third event has also signed on a handful of other popular names in pool like, Gerardo Jamito, Melissa Herndon, Brian Parks, Atila Bezdan and also the young Hungarian Pro, Vilmos Foldes, who has expressed a desire to live on the west coast permanently.
This time, playing 9 Ball instead of 10-Ball, statistically so far, the field for the upcoming Diamond Billiards event is already a little stronger than tour stop #2 at Hard Times – Sacramento, with 5 professional players in the field and more expected. Sacramento’s Hard Times Billiards, which only took in 4 professional players last month saw the rise of Jaynard Orque, who defeated some of its strongest players to take 1st place and now holds a ranking of #4 on the tour. It’s a simple fact, that The Mezz West State Tour, which provides a ranking position to its members and slight handicap to pro players seeking competition is quickly inspiring pool players to bring their best game to fight for a place at the top of the rankings list.

During a brief phone conversation with me on Monday of this week,Tang Hoa, who holds position #11 on the ranking list said, “I want to continue playing this season to make it to the Top 16 and qualify for the ‘Top Gun’ event. I think I have a strong chance to make it in, but just to make sure, I’m going to Fresno this weekend. See you there, Buddy!”
Stop #3 – The Venue is Diamond Billiards!
Diamond Billiards was opened in the mid 1990’s by an industrious man named Dan Dadian who, at one point owned 5 locations in Central California and Reno, Nevada. Passing away in 2012, Dan is survived by his wife, Sheri Dadian and who now owns and operates Diamond Billiards located at 6460 Blackstone Avenue; the venue has been at the 6,000 square foot location for over 10 years. It’s also the home of the annual ‘Rocky Antennucci 9 Ball Tournament’ which takes place every Super Bowl weekend and will also host its 3rd Annual, ‘Dan Dadian Memorial Tournament’ in November of 2014. Serving food and beer, Diamond Billiards is a weekly host to APA Leagues, Michael Reddick and Chris Swart’s – California Cue Sports events and an ‘in-house’ league, playing on 6 x 7′ bar sized tables, and 12 x 9′ Rebco Tables and the new addition of one 9′ Diamond Table. Another noteworthy factoid about Diamond Billiards, which pool players always ask about is that the house tables there have recently been *’Dominguez’ed’ and that means that the upcoming Mezz/West State stop will be held to high standards of excellence and playing conditions.
* Dominguez’ed : To have pool tables maintained by Oscar and Ernesto Dominguez – Arguably, the most sought after pool table mechanics in the Pacific Standard Time Zone.
Dan Dadian, a.k.a. – “Diamond Dan” founded Diamond Billiards and had the belief that everyone should have access to quality entertainment. Diamond Billiards is Fresno’s top destination, bringing people of all ages and skill levels together under one roof.
A big thanks also to Mezz Cues for this! Diamond Billiards will be raffling a limited edition Mezz Cue with a WD700Shaft to all players and spectators in attendance of the event.

On July 11th-13th and for the 5th year in a row, Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower will be hosting its annual ‘Hard Times 10-Ball Open’ tournament.. With $5,000 added money and POV Pool’s live streaming preparations underway, it’ll be another unforgettable event. Won by Carlo Biado last year, he bested Alex Pagulayan in a landslide final battle, 11 games to 1. Hard Times 10 Ball always attracts an assorted field of the best from all over the world and we can only guess who will be this year’s champion to rise to the top. Past top finishers of this event have been, Dennis Orcullo, Shane VanBoening, Ralf Souquet, Wang Can, Rodney Morris, Manny Chau, Max Eberle, Scott Frost and many others.
Confirmed So Far…
The internationally known pool promoter, author and tournament director, Jay Helfert has confirmed with POV Pool that Warren Kiamco and Dennis Orcullo are confirmed for this years event. Also, widely known to be an agent and manager for two other players whilst on the West Coast, we have a confirmation from Brook Thomason that Francisco Bustamante and Efren Reyes will also be competing. Reigning CSI, US Open 10-Ball Champion, Rodney Morris states that he will compete this year, just before flying to Japan for The Japan Open in Tokyo. And, there has been some discussion that Shane VanBoening may also make an appearance which, if this is the case, means it’s a matter of time before the rest will follow. No word yet as to whether we will be seeing any number of these 4 players: Ko Pin Yi, Ko Pin Chung, Chang Jun Ling and Cheng Yu Hsuan who are travelling from Taiwan to play in Las Vegas this year for the CSI, U.S. Open events. As they develop, more player and promotional updates can be found on The Hard Times 10-Ball’s, Facebook Event Page.
West State Billiards named as Main Sponsor!
This year’s main sponsor or the event will be none other than Southern California’s West State Billiards, located in Fullerton, CA – Operating since 1946, West State Billiards will be providing brand new 860 Simonis Brand cloth for 20 tables, soon to be installed by the Dominguez Family (Ernesto and Oscar). Tournament direction will be led by professional pool player and longtime house-pro at Hard Times, Dave Hemmah. With the new equipment and strong tournament leadership the entrants of this year’s event can expect nothing but the best quality and service at this annual event.
