————————————-

Pool’s new rising star from the Philippines, Carlo Biado, will be traveling to the United States next week for several months and has very quickly been scheduled to headline in an action packed, 2-day double-header billiards match against The Mosconi Cup, ‘Team USA’ player, Dennis Hatch on February 18th, 2014 at 5:00 pm PST (February 19th, 9:00 am UTC). The event will be a an exclusive, live broadcast available all over the world on Point Of View Pool’s, Internet live-streaming website at www.povpool.com via ‘Pay Per View’.

Playing the best of 49 games of 10-Ball, or a ‘race to 25′ games, against Dennis Hatch, Carlo may have his hands full against this veteran player, who has been known to compete at Hard Times Billiards as far back as 20 years and who was recently streamed online by POV Pool, beating Francisco Bustamante during the Hard Times 10-Ball event in July 2013. Meanwhile, we are sure that Biado will have no worries taking on “The Hatchetman!”, who played at the same event and placed 1st out of 104 players, besting the world renowned, Alex Pagulayan, 11 games to 1 in the finals.

Carlo’s match, will be the headliner of 2 matches, the first of which is an ‘undercard’ match between POV Pool’s owner, Daniel Busch and world renowned, British pool/snooker coach and billiards instruction author, Lee Brett (“The Secret Art Of Pool”).

POV Pool’s owner, Daniel Busch states, “(Carlo) Biado is truly an amazing talent and a great gift to the pool community! This will be the 2nd installment of an ‘Action Match’ series, produced by POV Pool. I am honored to showcase some of the world’s greatest talents coming out of the Philippines and from all over the world! POV Pool is working very hard to create the best possible production and high quality entertainment by broadcasting with multiple, hi-definition cameras and featuring one of pool’s star commentators, Jay Helfert.”

Additional Matches and details provided below…

Day – 1  / Lee Brett vs Daniel Busch!

Famed pool coach and former ‘Bonus Ball’ referee, Lee Brett has agreed to compete against Daniel Busch of POV Pool in a 9-Ball battle for a ‘winner take all’ purse of $2,000. It’ll be a fast and loose race of the best of 59 games and will start at 5:oo pm Pacific Standard Time / 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. Commentators Jay Helfert and Beau Runningen will commentate the match and a referee has yet to be named for the event. Matches of this proportion in the U.S. are traditionally a casual affair but Point Of View Pool is mandating that players bring a touch of class to this event by competing in formal attire. It will be reminiscent of the old school of billiards and today’s snooker competitions. Yes folks, vests and bow-ties will be required. Additional cameras and support staff are also being used to capture the drama for viewers.

Day – 2  / Dennis Hatch vs Carlo Biado!

Dennis Hatch, making a strong comeback in the pool-world as of late, he has competed in a handful of top independent events, such as the Crooks & Castles sponsored ‘Hard Times 10-Ball’ Tournament and recently played with Team USA in the 25th Annual Mosconi Cup Event in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Tuesday, February 18th, also at 5:00 pm PST, Dennis will be matching up with none other than the newest pool sensation from the Philippines, Carlo Biado in a grueling race to 25 games, playing 10-Ball – a ‘call pocket’ format ‘rotation’ game, which Carlo took the prize of 1st place in the aforementioned Crooks & Castles event.

Pay Per View Details & Kamui Tips Offer!

POV Pool Adds 1st Sundays To The Schedule!

Hard Times Billiards – Bellflower, CA

Hard Times Billiards Bellflower

POV Pool Returns For 1st  Sundays!

Beginning this Sunday and adding 3 events to a rapidly forming schedule, which is soon to be officially released sometime before October 15th, POV Pool will return to Hard Times Billiards to live-stream the 1st Sunday events there for the remainder of this year.

It’s been almost 4 months, since hungry fans got the chance to witness some of the biggest names in pool take down the ‘Devil Table’ at Hard Times Billiards. During that hot July weekend at the 4th Annual 10-Ball Open, POV Pool had the pleasure of live-streaming some of it’s best  matches ever. The cameras were on, the stream was strong and the commentators were superb.

And, as the cue-ball turns, ‘change’ is the only constant. Like the switching of an old cloth, Father Time  purges its legends into retirement and death, yet he leaves behind a new generation of young guns, starry-eyed hopefuls and serious contenders to the queue . Wang Can, Carlo Biado, Nikos Ekonomopolous, Shane VanBoening, John Morra, Jesse Engel, Oscar Dominguez - These are  just a few of the latest giants to lead the pack, who ,along with its regular ‘giant killers’, Hard Times Billiards sees a lion’s share of.

Capturing History!

Over the decades, Hard Times has seen its share of promoters and video professionals who were eager to record the history of these phenoms of pool. Before the days of live-streaming, the birth of the video camera brought J.J. Jenkins to the scene in 1988, where he recorded events for a whopping 6 years. Capturing Jay Swanson, Keith McCreedy, Grady Matthews, Ismael (Morro) Paez, Cecil Tugwell, Efren Reyes and even the 21 year-old Dennis Hatch, if you are a connoisseur of historical matches, I  urge you to contact J.J. Jenkins directly at poolactionvideos@yahoo.com and order some of his videos.

In 2009, Chad Pollman and Justin Collett’s ‘The Action Report’ produced live-streamed events at Hard Times, such as the 15th Annual Jay Swanson Memorial and a phenomenal 3-day action match entitled ‘TAR 16′  played between John Morra and Oscar Dominguez. TAR 16, happened to be the first chance for me to get hands-on experience with live-streaming a pool match. Working as Andy Chen’s assistant on the TAR crew, I got to run camera, operate the jib, getting a first-hand look at how a quality stream is presented. It is an experience for which I am forever grateful! Andy Chen also went on to provide further streamed coverage at Hard Times and other venues, working with Melissa Herndon of the SCL9T, Sacramento’s Hard Times Billiards for the Chuck Markulis’ memorial tournaments and more.

It is in this tradition that POV Pool is committed to bringing you continued action from Hard Times Billiards for the remainder of 2013, every first Sunday, starting October 6th. POV Pool’s live stream channel can be found on Ustream.tv with a chat interface for loyal viewers to mingle, or you can tune in to the live video only on www.povpool.com

 Tuning Up The Champions!

Over the course of 25+ years, Hard Times has lived up to it’s name as ‘The Home Of Champions’, attracting some of the world’s top players and notorious gamblers from all over the world.

Since Chuck Markulis opened Hard Times in 1988, the 1st Sunday, 9-Ball tournament has served as an institution for local players, roving gamblers and rail-birds alike. It’s widely known as one of the toughest pool workouts for a player to endure for just a $30 entry, combining all elements of a championship tournament, including top notch equipment, a roster of ‘god-like’ shooters and not to mention the incredible stamina needed to wait for your match to be called. For just a little less entry each week, every other Sunday there holds the same tournament but with no added purse. Format and prize fund for 1st Sunday the tournament has gone through various changes over the years and now stands at $600 added, based on a full field of 64 players.

It is a tournament which I recommend to any player, looking to improve their game on all levels. Marie Lim is the Tournament Director and entries are accepted at 12 noon on every 1st Sunday of the month. The 2013 West Coast Swing Report!

Predictions of an extremely hot summer this year will welcome yet another swing of players ‘galore’ on the west coast of the United States. Normally occurring in springtime,  this 4th annual ’West Coast Swing’ has now been moved to the summertime in order to work around the ‘BCA National Championships’ schedule which takes place in late July at the newly contracted Rio All Suites Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. That being said, the ‘swing’ will still accomodate a trifecta of major events shared by the states of California and Nevada and will boast a prize fund of at least $80,000 between them.

Different Players Anticipated

This years’ attendance at these events should be something to note due to the newly formed World Professional Billiard League or WPBL, (The Home Of Bonus Ball). With 12 teams of pro players from all over the world and with the ‘swing’ right in the middle of the ‘Bonus Ball’ broadcast schedule, it seems we should see a lively yet mixed attendance of top players scheduling these events between their ‘on’ and ‘off” time of Bonus Ball appearances. For instance, for an event in early July, Bonus Ball teams’ Chicago Rockets (Mika Immonen, Rodney Morris, Raj Hundal, Karl Boyes) should be available to play The West Coast Challenge event in Mountain View, but Bonus Ball would prevent them from appearing at Hard Times Billiards on the following week. At the Hard Times 10-Ball event, we might see a new swing of players from Bonus Ball teams, ‘Atlanta Scorpions’ (Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, Shannon Daulton) or the ‘Houston Hustlers’ (Jeremy Jones, Justin Hall and Chip Compton). As a likely result of this rather interesting schedule of events, a ‘winning sweep’ of The West Coast Swing by a small handful of players should not be anticipated. With 12 teams of bonus ball players (40 players in all) in Las Vegas during the swing, you can be assured that 40 top pros are already deciding how to best spend their off-time at Bonus Ball to keep their games in top shape. It is highly recommended that players and readers read and contribute to pertinent forums in order to follow the players and tournament schedules.

Additional sponsors of the event include, Play The Game Clothing and John Henderson’s Cue Sports Journal. The prize fund matches last years’, with the inclusion of two self-sanctioned spots to compete in the third leg of the swing at CSI’s Open One-Pocket and Open 10-Ball events. Efren Reyes has just landed back in the United States and will be flying to New Jersey for the Super Billiards Expo, from April 4th – 16th. He plans to play the ‘Diamond Pro Events’ and possibly the Kamui 14.1 Challenge.

After a quick, couple of beatings of ’15 Ball Rotation’ on table 6 at Hard Times, Efren stated to me that he will be back in Southern California after April 7th and plans to stay in the country until April 30th; to which I replied, “You should come to Vegas with me and get some action! Everyone is over there, you know?”

More on that story, as it develops…

With a short stay in Bellflower, Efren will most likely play the Hard Times regular Sunday 9 Ball Tournament on March 31st, which will be streamed live on POV Pool’s Ustream Channel at 12:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time.

For the past week or so, Dennis Orcollo, Ronnie Alcano and Alex Pagulayan have been seen at Hard Times getting into action, playing the ghost, challenging hard-hitters with huge spots, just to keep in form and be ready for this event. Shane VanBoening has been playing alot also in Vegas, where he has just defeated Mike Dechaine in the TAR 31 Challenge Match, running 3 & 4 packs like a walk in the park! Francisco Bustamante & Scotland’s Jayson Shaw are hot off the grill from a recent, Accu-Stats Challenge, where neither player had more than a 2 game lead in a race to 21 but finally ending in a loss for Shaw! Max Eberle is also hitting well after defeating Dennis Orcollo in the finals at the Derby Classic, 14.1 Challenge. In addition, don’t forget Manny Chau, Corey Harper and Rodney Morris, who have all felt comfortable enough at Hard Times to chalk up some wins against players like Efren Reyes, Sal Butera and Louis Ulrich (Respectively).

One thing’s for sure…Our consecutive, 2 time winner of the ‘Swanee’, Alex Pagulayan has his hands quite full this time as the pro’s keep flocking from near and far.

Hard Times Billiards Hosting: “The End Of The World: Tournament Of The Mayans!”

For Official Release:

December 21st, 2012

Hard Times Billiards, Bellflower, CA

It’ll be a long and busy month this December for Bellflower’s Hard Times Billiards in SoCal, which is scheduled to host at least 4 tournaments by outside promotors. The most curious of all though will occur on Friday, December 21st, 2012; a date of infamy which the ancient Mayan civilization, self-proclaimed prophets and conspiracy theorists alike say will mark the ‘end of days’ for all!

In association with Kamui Billiard Products, Point Of View Pool (POV Pool), Viking Cues, Andrew Park Cues, The Orange County APA, Max Eberle’s ‘Pro Pool Academy’ & Virtual Pool 4Hard Times Billiards will hold the first (and last), “End Of The World: 10-Ball Tournament Of The Mayans!”

This $1,000 added, one-day, double elimination tournament is open to only 32 players and is currently taking registrations until the field is full. The entry fee for this event will be $100 which means that with a full field of 32, this event will pay out $4,000 through 8th place. And, since ‘the end is near’, sponsors of the event have agreed to part with over 50 prizes and giveaways throughout the event, ranging from cues, shafts, Kamui chalk & tips, Cue Cases, DVD’s and much more.

John Bertone states, “I phoned Daniel Busch of POV Pool just a few days ago and said, ‘Hey, isn’t it supposed to be the end of the world next month on December 21st?’. Within minutes, Daniel and I were on the same page, working out the details, pitching for sponsors and surveying players to see if this should happen. As it turns out, it seems that the ‘end of the world’ is a pretty easy sell. After all, if you’re a pool player, not even the end of times is going to stop you from doing what you love to do the most, which is to play pool and go out in a blaze of glory!”

Daniel states, “We are expecting to see great pool, by the most talented players from all over! Considering the prize fund and the entry fee, we are only expecting the best of the best to take part, but we are sure that there will be a few surprise entries from players far and wide. After all, it’s supposed to be the LAST chance to get some table time with some of pool’s greatest idols! As soon as we receive our first 16 entries, we will begin to announce them. I would like to thank the owner of Hard Times – Eddie Arreguin, Tournament Director - Marie Lim and House Pro – Dave Hemmah for providing their help and services to make this event take place.”

To register for this event, please call: Daniel Busch @ 310-923-6639

Live streaming will take place via Pay-Per-View by POV Pool for $9.95 and will run for the duration of the entire event starting at 12PM PST. To purchase PPV tickets for this event, please visit, http://www.ustream.tv/channel/povpool

POV Pool Stream and Raffle @ Hard Times’ 1st Sunday, October 7th!

Hard Times Billiards, Bellflower / October 7th, 2012

1st Sunday Tournament, Live Stream and POV ‘raffle’ to be held!

Be sure to tune in and check out action once again for So Cal’s best monthly 9-Ball tournament from Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower run by Tournament Director Marie Lim.

Chuck Markulis Warmup!

Many of So Cal’s top professional players are expected to attend this 1st Sunday event which will also serve as an excellent warmup for the upcoming, ‘Chuck Markulis Memorial Tournament’ taking place just a few days later at Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento. Bellflower’s table #1, also known as ‘The Devil Table’ has seen some phenomenal action by POV Pool this year, featuring matches with top ranking players such as Oscar Dominguez, Scott Frost, Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Shane Van Boening and Raj Hundal just to name a few.

Nick Spano and Johnny Kang split 1st & 2nd

Let us not forget also, the Hard Times ‘hard hitters’ who, on any given day could give the pros a run for their money, especially on ‘The Devil Table’! Last month’s 1st Sunday event, left the pros hanging out to dry to up and comers like, Johnny Kang, Beau Runningen, Nick Spano, Steve Chaplin, Zeke Morrisson, Fach Garcia and believe it or not, ‘your’s truly’ – Daniel Busch. Johnny Kang has most certainly become a force to be reckoned with at the 1st Sunday events, taking 1st place for the month of August and splitting 1st & 2nd place with Nick Spano for last month’s September event.

Be that as it may, this upcoming October’s live streamed event should be a doozy with the expected turnout of hopefuls preparing for the Sacramento event, beginning October 11th, starting with $1,000 Added One-Pocket and leap-frogging into the 9-Ball portion of the event on October 13th.

POV Pool Raffle!

For those attending the event at Hard Times Billiards, POV Pool will be raffling prizes which will include, an ‘El Diablo’ Break Jump Cue ($250 Value), Max Eberle’s ‘Powerful Pool’ DVD Set ($99 Value), Virtual Pool 4 T-Shirts ($25 Value) and a Kamui Tip Voucher ($25 Value).

‘El Diablo’ – Break/Jump

Live Stream!

As always, for those who can’t see the action in the flesh, be sure to tune in to POV Pool’s homepage or on Ustream’s POV Pool Channel for live coverage of this event. Thanks for watching!
