The Mezz West State Tour Finale!

On March 7th and 8th a small handful of the best of The Mezz West State Tour ‘cueists’ will face off this weekend for a double-elimination, 10-ball showdown at Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, CA to determine the ‘Top Gun’ of its field in this inaugural season of 231 players. Reserved for only 32 players who have fought long and hard in the past 10 months, traveled to various venues along the west coast of the United States – Season 1 of The Mezz West State Tour has, by far been one of the most challenging and promising billiard tours seen in the United States in over a decade. March 7th and 8th will be remembered in pool history as another baby-step in the right direction.

32 Players Preparing for Action!

The top-ranked 32 players of the Mezz West State Tour currently consist of 10 professional players, 8 semi-pros and 14 amateurs who have all held up to each other with equal strength, brought us fast paced play and memorable moments. The 1 and 2 game handicap to respective skill levels has rendered a few chilling outcomes and very few landslides. The fact remains that, if you’re playing this event, you’ve done something great to get here. Ladies and Gentlemen, ‘Place Your Bets’!

This weekend’s event at “The Home Of Champions” opened by Chuck Markulis in 1988 is sure to carry the legacy of the great players who have come before them. The Mezz West State Tour brings talent to Hard Times Billiards with a different slant than usual. The players at this event will all have earned their place at the table, after a long haul of 11 events and all, very hungry to win.

A Little History – A Lot Of Thanks!

Tour founders, Oscar Dominguez and Desiree Rivera, whose announcement of the Mezz West State Tour immediately attracted local promoters, venues and product sponsors from conception to launch; they were able to officially sign 9 host venues whilst partners such as Fast n Loose, POV Pool and GoPlayPool went to work on other tasks in the background: Website, Live Streaming and Social Promotion. In a way, this was a convergence of events that could almost be likened to someone who wins 9-ball tournament: It took a whole lot of skill, a little bit of luck and just the right timing.

Mezz Cues and West State Billiards, ZAN Tips and Turtle Rack are to be applauded for providing resources to the events, which made the tour possible. With many thanks, each official tour stop brought with it $2,000 added money and the hosting venues received cues, cases and merchandise to attract local talent to play and register. Thanks also to Marty Carey (Marty Carey Jump Cue) and Steve Chaplin of Virtual Pool 4 who were able to come to the table, not only to compete in many of the stops, but also to provide additional funding for the live streaming of the events on POV Pool and On The Rail TV.

POV Pool to Live-Stream TAP, Pools Amateur Tour “Rally” in Edison Event!

TAP, Pools Amateur Tour will hold their largest tournament ever at this years’ Rally in Edison, NJ in conjunction with Allen Hopkins’ Productions Super Billiards Expo. Players Nationwide will converge upon The New Jersey Expo Center, which is hosting the largest consumer oriented billiards trade-show in the world. TAP will welcome over 2,000 members and their licensees to compete in the annual “Rally Dream Teams” events for both 8 and 9 Ball Formats.2014_RALLY_TEE_2

TAP has again contracted the services of Point Of View Pool (http://www.povpool.com) to produce the live-streaming of all featured matches of the ‘Dream Team’ and ‘Singles Classic’, Interview management and licensees, and promote this 18th Annual Rally event for the enjoyment of their players’ families, their local leagues who could not make the event and potential amateur players.

The Schonter Family/Corporate Office, Events Director Kelly Nace and all TAP Tournament Staff which is comprised of Licensees work hard year after year to produce the highest quality billiard events for players across the country. This will be the largest event ever in TAPs 25 year history and is going to be quite a show.

Screen Shot 2014-03-09 at 12.55.57 PM

TAP, LLC., which was founded in 1989 by the late Loyd Schonter, is known as the fastest growing amateur pool league in the United States. TAP places a special focus on sportsmanship, etiquette and an attitude of living by the motto, “Always for the Player”. Loyd was a pioneer in the amateur league arena. He was always looking for ‘bigger and better’. 2014 brings a lot to TAP, its Licensees and Players that he was working on and planning for quite some time. Some of those plans will be revealed at the National Meeting that Corporate is having with it’s Licensees on Thursday, March 13th. Loyd shared a vision that he wanted for not only TAP but also the billiard industry. Now his legacy and vision will be carried on as indicated by Kristen, Celeste & Chuck Schonter. TAP will move forward and we will make it all happen and in the timeframe he wanted in 2014. Also, TAP recently launched a new cell-phone scoring which is an industry first, ensuring all members a fun night out, generating less paperwork and producing updated stats with the click of a few buttons

TAP has the most common and widely accepted rules format in the industry, has a structure and format that provides more to the Amateur Player than any other league. Created in 2007 by Loyd, the ‘POOL Net’ database, which is used to manage the TAP handicap system, membership,  tournament management and player statistics. POOL Net will also be unveiling a upgrade in 2014. There is another major format about to be released in TAP X, which joins the other formats TAP hosts, Call pocket 8 Ball, 9 Ball and 10 Ball events across the country. In Team, Single, and Scotch Double Formats.

Loyd will always be remembered with a great deal of love and respect by all at TAP, and it will be interesting to see the roll out of all the new things he had in mind, as they become a reality in 2014. As he would always say and TAP will do – TAP ON and POV Pool will be in the epicenter, providing live coverage on POV Pool’s Ustream ChannelScreen Shot 2014-03-05 at 4.31.18 PM

Live Stream Information – 4 Days of Action!

POV Pool will begin streaming the 2014, TAP ‘Rally in Edison’ events on March 13th at 5pm EST – 12am EST and will be looking forward to streaming morning events starting as early as 8am EST and all throughout the evening on the following days, until March 16th which will be the finals for the team events.

Licensees, team captains and/or team coaches are encouraged to make appearances and help out with commentary in the live stream area, as there will be long hours and hundreds of players to gain recognition on POV Pool on behalf of the league.

POV Pool Announces a new, ‘Live Stream, Revenue Sharing’ Business Model!

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 3.39.32 PM

January 30th, 2014

Point Of View Pool Headquarters, Los Angeles

Introducing, ‘LSRS’ / Live Stream, Revenue Sharing!

Beginning this February, Point Of View Pool at www.povpool.com is thrilled to announce a new ‘Pay-Per-View’ concept that offers viewers more live streaming events with players and their host venues benefiting directly through a percentage of the POV Pool’s, Pay-Per-View Profits.

It’s time players get paid directly for their talent and star-power through ‘LSRS’.

I am expanding my vision of Pool and Billiards streaming so that players and venues can partner with POV Pool for an any event and enjoy the financial benefits that they deserve. I am creating a Pay-Per-View model that creates incentives for players and venues to enter POV Pool’s live streamed events, and profit directly from the viewers that they draw for each event. This enables the viewers to directly contribute monetarily to their favorite Players and venues for any hosted event.

For example: a monthly tournament that is usually $500 added and streamed for $8 to POV Pool’s subscribers, will now grow the payouts directly related to the increased draw of the players, host venues and viewers. More Players and More Viewers will grow payouts based on PPV attendance.

Simply put, The more viewers that POV ‘Players’ and Host Venues draw, the more they get paid! Everyone benefits directly!

It is my theory that this model (LSRS), will set a new precedent for live streamers everywhere. I expect and encourage other streamers to follow the same model, which will not only create a direct incentive for players to promote their own events and brands, but will also encourage unity and free competition amongst a growing number of other streamers. Just as I have been generous to all venues and players with my time and resources, it is my goal for the future of pool to remain generous with the profits of viewership.

What’s also exciting is, the PPV streams will now be privately hosted and streamed virtually ‘AD FREE’ to viewers, adding to yet another long list of improvements POV Pool has made to it’s presentations in the past 3 years.

Screen Shot 2014-01-19 at 8.24.35 PM

The Facts

After 3 years in business as a live presenter of hundreds of events and matches, POV Pool’s main sources of income has been generated through viewer donations, limited sponsorships and service fees to venues. Even though support is growing, it seems apparent in 2014 that that the billiard industry as a whole can not financially sustain a budget needed to produce a quality live stream broadcast.

It’s a question of simple economics. As with the rest of the billiard industry, i.e.; the table manufacturers, pool halls, leagues and tournaments… they are sustained by pool players and pool enthusiasts, who put coins into the pay tables, purchase cues and billiard equipment, join leagues and enter into events… the phenomenon of live-streaming will merely become another product, which consumers can enjoy as part of the tapestry of their pool lifestyle.  And, just as the rest of the industry sponsors billiard events and tournaments, supporting live streamed events on a PPV basis, will now provide the streamer with enough leverage to pay the streaming talent directly and also sponsor its own events.

‘LSRS’ Starts this February

You can immediately order tickets for future events on POV Pool’s website at:http://www.povpool.com/action/  – Pricing will vary based on certain events, but should be affordable for most PPV audiences.

The first scheduled Pay-Per-View event will occur from Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, California on February 1st & 2nd. It will be the “Hard Times 1st Saturday and Sunday” Tournaments of the month. Saturday will be One-Pocket and Sunday will be 9-Ball. The show will also be advertisement ‘free’. The pricing for this event and for future events will generally cost less than a matinee price at your local movie theater and will usually run for over 6 hours through to the final match of the event. Some proceeds of this event will be immediately added towards the day’s prize fund, with an additional percentage held back for future events. An announcement as to how much is being added will be made immediately during or sooner than the semi finals match. 1st Sun Hard TimesArtistic

I would expect to see a typical, $500 added event to immediately grow by at least $100 in prize money, at which point, we will see it grow larger from there. Ideally, POV Pool would like to see ALL prize funds for events grow to double in size with, also enough being held back to use for even larger, POV Pool sponsored events.

1st Sat Hard TimesArtisticPlease visit www.povpool.com to find out more about which events are FREE and which are PPV. New dates are constantly being added to the schedule.
